a² = (4 + 3 + 4√3)

a² = (7 + 4√3)---------------( 1 )

1/a² = 1/(7 + 4√3) * (7 - 4√3)/(7 - 4√3)

1/a² = (7 - 4√3)/(49 - 48).

1/a² = (7 - 4√3)-------------( 2 )

adding---------( 1 ) & --------( 2 )

a² + 1/a² = (7 + 4√3) + (7 - 4√3)

(a² + 1/a²) = 7 + 7 + 4√3 - 4√3

(a² + 1/a²) = 14
