5. The function of the stem is to transport water and minerals to the leaf, and to give rise to the leaves to reach sunlight so photosynthesis can occur. ( Xylem tissue in the stem is responsible for transportation of minerals and water)

5. Plants make food in their leaves. The leaves contain a pigment called chlorophyll, which colours the leaves green. Chlorophyll can make food the plant can use from Carbon Dioxide, water, nutrients, and energy from sunlight. This process is called photosynthesis. (The Phloem tissue in the leaf transports food to all parts of the plant. )
