Step-by-step explanation:

mean= sumation x÷n

given mean = 48

n=20

48×20=480 = sum of x

new sum of x =480+60+58

= 598

new sum of x= 598

new n = 20+2=22

new mean = 598÷22

=27.18

~ 27.2kg

GIVEN :-

  • Mean weight of a class of 20 students is 48 kg.
  • Two more students weighing 60 kg and 58 kg respectively join the class.

TO FIND :-

  • The New mean.

SOLUTION :-

 \\  :  \implies \displaystyle \sf \: weight \: of \: 20 \: students \:  = 48 \times 20 \\  \\  \\

:  \implies  \underline{ \boxed{\displaystyle \sf \: weight\: of \: 20 \: students \:   = 960}} \\  \\

 \underline{ \bigstar \:  \textsf{According to the Question}} \\  \\

 \dashrightarrow \displaystyle \sf \: Sum \:  of  \: observation = 960 + 60 + 58 \\  \\  \\

 \dashrightarrow \underline{ \boxed{ \displaystyle \sf \: Sum \:  of  \: observation = 1078}} \\  \\

Now,

 \\  \dashrightarrow \displaystyle \sf \: no. \:  of  \: observation = 20 + 2 \\  \\  \\

 \dashrightarrow  \underline{ \boxed{\displaystyle \sf \: no. \:  of  \: observation = 22}} \\  \\

________________…

 \\ \dashrightarrow \displaystyle \sf \: new \: mean =   \dfrac{sum \: of \: observation}{\: no. \:  of  \: observation } \\  \\  \\

\dashrightarrow \displaystyle \sf \: new \: mean =  \frac{1078}{22}  \\  \\  \\

\dashrightarrow  \underline{ \boxed{\displaystyle \sf \: new \: mean = 539}} \\  \\

\therefore\underline{ \textsf{Mean of class now \: (new \: mean) is 539}}
