Dear Student,

Solution:

As X can do a piece of work in = 4 days

and Y can do that work in = 6 days

Now,to calculate total unit of work, take LCM of 6 and 4
LCM (4,6) = 12 unit of work

Efficiency of X per day = 1/4 unit

For whole work = 12/4 = 3 unit /day

Efficiency of Y per day = 1/6
For whole work = 12/6 = 2 unit/day

As they work alternative days
As Y starts then X = in 2 days they work = 3+2 = 5 unit
work done in 2 days = 5 unit

like that in next two days = 5 unit

in 4 days work done = 10 unit

at 5 day Y works for 2 unit of work
it completes in 2/6 = 1/3= 0.33 day

Total time = 4+0.33 = 4.33 days

Twice the work will complete in 2*4.33= 8.66 day

you can convert 0.66 in hours if required

Hope it helps you.

MERCURY1234: but the answer is 9.666
hukam0685: ok,i will check
hukam0685: if it will do like that, 12/5 = 2.4, so total work done = 2.4*2= 4.8,hence double work will be done in 4.8*2= 9.6 days
