Question:

a body covers a distance of 5 metre along a semicircular path from its one end to the another end then the ratio of its distance covered to its displacement is:

Explanation:

given distance covered 5 m on a semicircular path

i.e. it covered an arc with angle 180*

so, arc length = 2πr@/360*

= 2πr@/360* = 5m

2πr× 180/360 = 5m

2πr/2 = 5

πr = 5

r = 5/π

r = 5/22 × 7

r = 35/22

so, radius of semicircular path = 35/22 m

now,

displacement = shortest distance from initial point to final point

i.e diameter of the semicircular path

= 2 × radius

= 2 × 35/22

= 35/11 m

ratio of its distance covered to its displacement = 5 : 35/11

= 55 : 35

= 11 : 7

so,

ratio of its distance and its displacement = 11 : 7

hope it helps
