Answer:-

  • Rod A will sink more in the sand.
  • In case of Rod B, thrust decreases since contact area is comparatively more than that of Rod A.
  • Rod A has a less contact area, thus, thrust increases.

  • Thrust = Pressure/Area.
  • Here, pressure in both rods were same. But, the area (contact area) was changed.
  • That affected the thrust over sand.

Pressure(P)= Force(F)/ Area{a)The rod A having more area of contact compared to rod B,and the forces is same because of same weight of the rods. Therefore the rod B will exert more pressure on that area than rod A. Hence,the rod B will sink more.
