4. let the edge of the cube be x. it's surface area = x² (side)² ; volume of the cube = x³ (side)³ .
if the edge is doubled= 2x , then,
i) surface area= (2x)² = 4x²
so, the surface area will increase by 4 times.
ii) volume = (2x)³ = 8x³
so, the volume will increase by 8 times.
5. dimension of the matchbox = 4cm × 2.5cm × 1.5cm
volume of the matchbox = lbh = 4cm × 2.5cm × 1.5cm
= 15 cm³
volume of packet containing 12 matchboxes = 12 × 15 cm³
= 180 cm³
