Let the rational between the number of ladies to that of gents at a party be x

The ratio of the number of ladies to that of gents at a party was 3:2.

Thus the number of ladies were 3x and gents were 2x.

When 20 more gents joined the party, the ratio was reversed.

On joining of 20 more gents the number of gents are 2x + 20. Now ratio of ladies and gents become 2 : 3. Accordingly

3x/ 2x + 20 = 2/3

9x = 2 (2x + 20)

9x = 4x + 40

9x - 4x = 40

5x = 40

x = 40/5

x = 8

The rational is 8

Thus the number of ladies are 3x = 3 × 8 = 24 ladies

The number of gents are 2x = 2 × 8 = 16 gents

Step-by-step explanation:

Let ladies and gents be = 3x & 2x

3x/2x + 20 = 2/3

4x + 40 = 9x (Cross Multiply)

5x = 40

x = 8

Ladies = 3x = 24
