Answer:

a.  Synovial joints, also known as movable joints, refer to the joints that are capable of moving in a variety of directions (allow mobility). Such examples include the knee joints, elbow joints, wrist joints, shoulder joints, hip joints and ankle joints.

b. The ball and socket joint (or spheroid joint) is a type of synovial joint in which the ball-shaped surface of one rounded bone fits into the cup-like depression of another bone. The distal bone is capable of motion around an indefinite number of axes, which have one common center.

c. Pivot joints are joints that permit rotatory movement of bones, around a single axis. In this joint, a cylinder-shaped bone rotates inside another ligament that forms a ring around the joint. The joint between the atlas and the axis which is right under the skull, allows the turning of the head from side to side.

d. A hinge joint is a type of synovial joint that exists in the body and serves to allow motion primarily in one plane. The hinge joint is made up of two or more bones with articular surfaces that are covered by hyaline cartilage and lubricated by synovial fluid.
