Ions are electrically charged particles formed when atoms lose or gain electrons. Metal atoms form positive ions, while non-metal atoms form negative ions. The strong electrostatic forces of attraction between oppositely charged ions are called ionic bonds.

In terms of geography, we knew or we may learnt the "Rocks and minerals" CHAPTER. The rocks contain soluble salts (particularly rock salt) along with some ions of chlorides, magnesium, silicon, etc. In Geography, ion is a particle or a constituent of rock/mineral
