(b) x^2+1/x^2 = (x+1/x)^2 - 2×x×1/x

= (3)^2-2 = 9-2 = 7

(c) x^4+1/x^4 = (x^2+1/x)^2 - 2 = (7)^2-2

= 49-2 = 47
