Information provided with us:

  • Length of a side of triangle is 6cm
  • Second side is twice the third side
  • Perimeter of the triangle is 18cm

Using the concept:

  • Triangles

Formula of perimeter of triangle:

  • Perimeter of triangle = Sum of its three sides

We know that:

  • First side is of length 6cm

Let us assume:

  • Length of third side be y

According to the question:

  • Second side would be of length 2y

(As it was twice the third side)

Substituting the required values in formula:

Again given,

  • First side = 6
  • Second side = 2y
  • Third side = y

Putting values,

6 + 2y + y = 18

6 + 3y = 18

Reversing the sides,

3y = 18 - 6

Now,

3y = 12

y = 12/3

On dividing 12 with 3 we gets,

y = 4

Therefore, y is 4cm.

Finding out sides of triangle:

→ First side = 6cm

→ Second side = 2y = 2 × 4 = 8cm

→ Third side = y = 4cm
