First let's understand the question : There are three test tubes : Distilled water , acid and a base . We only have red litmus paper . How will we identify which test tube has what kind of liquid in it?

Explanation : We will first put the litmus in beaker A . If it colour changes from red to blue , it is base . If it doesn't , it is either an acid or water . If the second condition comes , we will put the beaker in test tube B , the litmus changes from red to blue , thus confirming that the test tube B has base . Now the red litmus has changed into Blue , so our litmus is blue . We will again put the litmus in test tube A , if colour remains unchanged , the liquid is distilled water but if the colour changed again to red , this is an acidic solution .
