In order to get manual scavenging banned, the Safai Karamchari Andolan registered a PIL in the year 2003. In their appeal, they complained that manual scavenging an inhuman job still exist in and it proceeded in state job like the railways. Since this job violated the fundamental rights against exploitation thus, they attempted implementation of their Fundamental Rights.
