Step-by-step explanation:

let present age of son = x

present age of father = 6x

son's age after 4 years = x + 4

father's age after 4 years = 6x + 4

it is given that after 4 years, father's will be four times son's age

therefore 6x + 4 = 4(x + 4)

=> 6x + 4 = 4x + 16

=> 6x - 4x = 16 - 4

=> 2x = 12

=> x = 6

so son's present age = x = 6 years

father's present age = 6x = 36 years
