Through the column of your prestigious newspaper, I want to highlight the urgent need to save and harvest water and raise the water table.

Water is the basic necessity for human beings, animals and birds. The globalisation of our economy has given free rein to the multinationals. A bottling of water is a thriving business in India. The companies are minting money in the name of providing pure and clean water to people. Rivers are being sold. They are eyeing water supply in big cities.

Furthermore, in places where clean water is scarce, overusing or wasting household water limits the availability of it for other communities to use for drinking, cleaning, cooking or growing—and thus contributes to disease, illness or agricultural scarcity/starvation.

The Government and the public must understand the urgent need to save water.Act before it is too late and the situation becomes beyond redemption.
