the correct will be :-

work hard otherwise you will fail

According to your question, we must use otherwise instead of " but " because but does fits properly in that statement..

So the right statement is :

Work hard otherwise you will fail.

This sentence means that if you won't work hard then you will fail.

In hindi it exactly means -

" कठिन परिश्रम करो अन्यथा तुम असफल हो जाओगे "
