C.Wright Mills define sociological imagination as " the vivid awareness of the relationship between experience and the wider society ".

  • it is the ability to see things socially and how they interact and influence each other. To have a sociological imagination, a person must be able to pull away from the situation and think from an alternative point of view.

Sociological Imagination refers to the relationship between the personal issues of the problem of the person and the public issues of the social structure. According to the sociologist C. Wright Mills sociological imagination enables to group history and biography and the relations between the two within society.

For eg, -Homeless is a public issue but it is also a personal problem of individual living below poverty line. There could be various possible causes like unemployment, migration, etc which creates homeless.
