If k = 2 that is a + b = 2, and b = 3, then a = k - b= 2 - 3 = -1, and a + 2b = k + b = 2 + 3 = 5

If k = 2 and b = 3, then a = k - b = 2 + 3 = 5, and a + 2b = k + b = 2 - 3 = -1

So, a may be either -1 or 5.

And the three zeroes of the polynomial are -1, 2 and 5.
