a) Because ice can hold more heat before moving towards 1 degree Celsius water than water can even when both are at 0 degrees Celsius. There is something called Latent Heat.

b) Boiling water contains only a specific amount of heat energy required for it to boil. However, as steam is formed from boiling water, it contains the heat energy of boiling water, along with the latent heat of vaporization. Hence, as steam has more heat energy, it can cause more severe burns than boiling water.

this is because Ice requires more heat to change into water...... this heat that ice needs is called latent heat........ as water is already in liquid form,it doesn't require any latent heat.... so ice absorbs the heat from the surrounding environment ...... this is why ice causes more cooling than water does

b) steam causes severe burns as its particles are in gaseous state and have higher kinetic energy than water in liquid state...... this is the cause of steam causing severe burns
