Answer:

6.6667 m/s^2

Explanation:

Given

F1 = 5N

a1 = 10 m/s^2

m1 = ? ( unknown)

F2 = F1 = 5N

a2 = 20 m/s^2

m2 = ? ( unknown )

Finding the value of m1  ( using F = ma )

F = ma

5N = m1 x 10 m/s^2

5N/10 m/s^2 = m1

1/2 kg = m1   ( 1 st equation )

Finding the value of m2 ( using F = ma )

F = ma

5N = m x 20 m/s^2

5N/20 m/s^2 = m2

1/4 kg = m2

now. we have to find the acceleration the same force would produce when two masses are tied together ( basically we have to add the 2 masses)

Total mass = 1/2 kg  + 1/4 kg

= 3/4 kg

Finding the acceleration produced  (using F = ma)

F = ma

5N = 3/4 x a

a = 5 x 4 /3

a=6.6667 m/s^2

HOPE IT HELPS!!!
