The difference between velocityand acceleration can be drawn clearly on the following grounds: The velocity of an object refers to the speed in a specific direction. ... Velocity is nothing but the rate of change of displacement. On the other hand, acceleration isthe rate of change of velocitywith respect to time.

If the motion of an object is along a straight line and in the same direction, the magnitude of displacement is equal to the total path length. In that case, themagnitude of the average velocity is equal to the average speed.

Hope it helps you.
