The gold-leaf electroscope is used to detect measure and find the nature of a charge. It consists of two thin strips (leaves) of gold attached to a metal rod, which is suspended inside a glass jar.
Suppose you charge it with a positively charged glass rod. The leaves will get positively charged and move apart.
Hope this helps you ☺️☺️❤️❤️✌️✌️

A gold-leaf type electroscope is a device used to detect the presence of electric charge on a body and its relative amount. ... When the electrode is charged by induction or by contact, the leaves acquire similar electric charges and repel each other due to the Coulomb force.
