Answer:

Colonies of yeast fails to mutiply in water becoz they don't contain substances ( like glucose , sucrose ) which provides them energy to divide and multiply .

On the other hand they multiply in sugar solution becoz they contain glucose and sucrose which by the yeast breaks down and obtain energy from that . This energy is used for multiplying .
