ephemeralasymmetry: That is true. I was considering that in parallel combination R(eq) would always be less than the minimum value connected, but the value R2 could probably be greater than USA' debt to China. Thanks for the help!

Always remember that in series combination current remains same and in parellel combination potential difference remains same.
