We know that the 10 vernier scale division coinside with 10 MSD when we match zero of vernier scale with zero of main scale

So 10 VSD = 9MSD

vernier constant is the least distance that can be measured on vernier scale

it is known as vernier constant and vernier constant = 1MSD-1VSD means the distance between 1MSD and 1 VSD and is the least distance which can be measured by vernier scale

thus vernier constant = (1-0.9 ) MSD

0.1 MSD

as 1MSD = 10mm

so vernier constant = 1mm
