the citric may spoil the surface of the aluminium,as aluminium quite often has a reaction with certain chemicals.

when we clean an aluminium pan with,it may have been soda crystals,and it caused it to spoil the finnish, leaving a whitish finnish it took quite a bit of cleqning to get rid of it.
