there are many layers of air on the earth. normally, when you hold something on your palm, if it is very heavy your palm is pushed down due to its weight. in the same way, those layers of air above earth exert some force ,which is called pressure, on the earth due to its weight. this is air pressure ( layers of air exert the pressure. so AIR pressure)
