the process of oxidation and reduction is very simple
oxidation which is the addition of oxygen in a reaction
such 2mg + o2 ------ 2 mgo
here mg or magnesium gets oxidised
whereas in a reaction where hydrogen is added and oxygen is removed is called as reduction ....

Dear frnd,

OXIDATION means-
I) Addition of Oxygen
or
II) Removal of Hydrogen

For example,
Copper + Oxygen↑ -----> Copper Oxide
2Cu + O2↑ -----> 2CuO

Here, Cu has oxidized to form CuO.

REDUCTION means-
I) Removal of Oxygen
or
II) Addition of Hydrogen

For example,
Zinc Oxide + Carbon -----> Zinc + Carbon Oxide
ZnO + C -----> Zn + CO

Here, ZnO has reduced to form Zn.

REDUCING AGENT- The substance which is Oxidized is called as Reducing agent.
Eg. As I have described above in example for Oxidation,
Cu (Copper) is the Reducing Agent

OXIDIZING AGENT- The substance which is reduced is called as Oxidizing agent.
Eg. As I have described above in example for Reduction,
ZnO is Oxidising Agent.

Hope ur confusions will get clear now!
Hope it helped
