please explain Rationalisation of the denominator (the idea of conjugate) . as I do not understand it

Ex .. 5/root 2. is an irrational no.

Now if we multiply it by root 2 it would be rationalised...

5/root 2 × root 2 / root2 == 5root 2 / 2

Here root 2 is the conjugate...
