Given:-

  • Applied force = F = 120 N
  • Surface is smooth.

To find:-

  • tension in the string between 3 kg and 5 kg block = T₁
  • tension in the string between 5 kg and 7kg block = T₂

Answer:-

Refer to he attachment for F.B.D.

We know that,

Net force = net mass * acceleration

In this case, T₁ and T₂ get cancelled (refer to FBD) and the net force is only the applied force = F = 120 N

Net mass = net mass = 3 kg + 5 kg + 7 kg = 15 kg

So,

120 = 15 * a

→ a = 8 m/s²

This acceleration will be same for all the three blocks.

Now, considering the first block,

F = ma

From FBD,

→ 120 - T₁ = 3 * 8

→ 120 - T₁ = 24

→ T₁ = 120 - 24

T = 96 N Ans

Now considering the third block,

F = ma

From FBD,

→ T₂ = 7 * 8

T₂ = 56 N Ans
