Under the "Ryoti " , the planters forced the ryots to sign an agreement ( satta ) or the village headman signed the agreement on behalf of the ryots. Those who signed the agreement , get loans at a low rate of interest, in return they had to cultivate Indigo on 25 percent of their land holdings. The planters insisted that indigo should be cultivated on the best soil, in which the peasants wanted to cultivate rice, Indigo plant has deep roots and exhausted the soil fertility very rapidly, after that indigo harvest , the land could not be sown with rice.

The system was oppressive and many broke out in open rebellion .

Hope this helps you : )

Answer:

Ryoti system was a system in which cultivators of ryoti were forced to sign an agreement called satta and were given loan at a cheaper interest rate to grow indigo. The system was devised by Capt. Alexander Read and Thomas (later Sir Thomas) Munro at the end of the 18th century.
