Please explain this. Does 'a' denote the resultant acceleration of tangential and centripetal acceleration? Why do we not consider centrifugal acceleration? Does it not exist?

yeah ,'a' denotes resultant acceleration
At one time a body can experience either centripetal acceleration or centrifugal acceleration that's why we use here only centripetal acceleration not centrifugal acceleration.
