The line segment joining the midpoints of any two sides of a triangle is parallel to the third side and equal to the half of it.
This is midpoint theorem.
Now let a triangle ABC and D be the midpoint of AB and E be the midpoint of AC. Join DE.
This theorem tells DE is parallel to BC and DE is half of BC.
