• Central idea/ theme - In this poem God bestows certain qualities on Man. He gives Man riches, wisdom, honour, pleasure and much more but not rest for he knew Man is such a creature who would forget God if he doesn't need anything. So, maybe not because of goodness but because of restlessness Man may remember God. The lines, "if goodness lead him not, yet weariness
may toss him to my breast." proof of the theme of the poem.
• Rhyming scheme - Ababa
• Figure of speech - "A glass of blessings" this is a metaphor. It denotes the sum of all human qualities bestowed on man.
• Special features - Imagery ( shows human qualities, beautifully portraits human nature)
• Favourite lines- " If goodness lead him not, yet weariness may toss him to my breast."
• I like the poem very much. First of all because of how beautifully the poet George Herbert has depicted human nature. he he wrote about the harsh reality in beautiful lines. cal so this poem reminds us to be grateful to God no matter what.
