The bird worked hard through the summer to build its nest.

- It lined it with soft cotton collected from the shops near the tree where the nest was perched.

- It devised a clever plan: it to;d the cuckoo that the bird with the shiniest egg would be given a grand prize of a bucketful of worms at the 'Bird-fest' later that week.

- The cuckoo promptly claimed back its egg, only to realise later that the bird had outsmarted it!
