Trees are a bounty of nature. A cluster of trees makes up a landscape of natural beauty. A large number of many varied species of trees and plants within a particular area forms a forest.
There is Diversity in the Variety of Trees
There are many different kinds of trees. Trees may be flowering or non-flowering ones. Similarly, there are deciduous trees that shed their leaves in a particular season, and turn bare, while there are evergreen ones that are green through the year. Trees grow according to the soil conditions, the altitude and other factors of a place. For instance, pine trees grow in the hills, while thorny trees grow in desert areas.
Trees give us Innumerable Benefits
Trees are an invaluable asset to us. Trees provide us food. The roots, stem, leaves, flowers, fruits and seeds may be edible to man. Trees are also food for herbivorous animals. Trees also serve as home to many different species of wildlife.
Trees play an important role in ecological balance and environment protection. Trees help in holding the soil. When trees are felled, the soil can easily lose its top fertile layer. The soil would, thus, lose its richness and fertility. Trees also help in maintaining the water table at a high level. Trees influence the climate too. Trees and forests help in maintaining the hydrological cycle. Monsoon systems are timely and normal when forests and trees are not chopped down.
Trees use up carbon-dioxide and give out oxygen in the process of photosynthesis. Thus trees not only enrich the air with oxygen, which man and other life forms need to breathe, but also purify the air by absorbing the carbon-dioxide in it. By felling trees, there is a build up of greenhouse gases like carbon-dioxide in the air. Deforestation is one of the major reasons for global warming and the consequent climate change.
As Trees are Valuable Tree Plantation is Invaluable
As trees and forests play a major role in the environment, man must avoid felling trees and clearing forest areas. On the other hand, we must make efforts to plant trees wherever and whenever possible. By creating small areas of greenery we can help in improving our immediate environment. Through a cumulative effect the environment of the entire planet can be improved. We must also make sure we plant the right species of trees in an area. The local and native plants are best to plant, as exotic plants and trees further disturb the local ecology and environment.
