(i) The gas formed is carbon dioxide  or CO₂

(ii) When lime water is put in the gas jar, the lime water turns milky when it reacts with the carbon dioxide and forms calcium carbonate. Ca(OH)₂ + CO₂ → CaCO₃ + H₂0

(iii) When a burning candle is placed in the gas jar, since CO₂ is present, it will extinguish the flame.

(iv) CO₂ is acidic, therefore the indicator will turn orange and brisk effervescence is formed.

(v) CaCO₃ + HCl → CaCl₂ + H₂O + CO₂    ( Calcium displaces hydrogen and hydrogen reacts with CO₃ taking one oxygen atom while the the remaining element is CO₂)
