So we are given that the beam of wood is 5 m long, 36 cm thick and that the Volume of it is 1.35 m^3

Firstly, we need to convert the thickness into meters, so we must divide it by 100.

This will give us a thickness of 0.36 m.

Next, as V (Volume)= L (Length) x W (Width) x T (Thickness) we will need to solve for the width. This will become \frac{V}{LT} = W

Now we can substitute in the known values \frac{1.35}{(5)(0.36)} = W

This will become \frac{1.35}{1.8} = W

This again simplifies into W = 0.75 m, which is the answer.
