The government is answerable to people for all its acts and policies. It is the government of the people, by the people and for the people.
The five basic features of Democracy are:
i)In a democracy people elect their government. They monitor its working and can vote it out at the next election.
ii)Elections are held partially in the form of government. In our country, elections are usually held once in every five years
iii)In a democracy, Universal Adult Franchise, i.e. the Right to Vote is given to every adult citizen irrespective of their caste, sex, religion, race or language.
