Given :

  • \sf\:(x+3):(x+11)~=~(x-2):(x+1)

To find :

  • The value of x.

Solution :

\sf\:(x+3):(x+11)~=~(x-2):(x+1)

Same can be written as,

\sf\to\:\frac{(x+3)}{(x+11)}~=~\frac{(x-2)}{(x+1)}

\sf\to\:(x+3)(x+1)~=~(x-2)(x+11)

\sf\to\:x^2+x+3x+3~=~x^2+11x-2x-22

\sf\to\:x^2+4x+3~=~x^2+9x-22

\sf\to\:x^2-x^2+4x-9x+3+22~=~0

\sf\to\:\cancel{x^2}-\cancel{x^2}+4x-9x+3+22~=~0

\sf\to\:4x-9x+3+22~=~0

\sf\to\:-5x+25~=~0

\sf\to\:-5(x-5)~=~0

\sf\to\:(x-5)~=~-\frac{0}{5}

\sf\to\:(x-5)~=~0

\bf\to\:x~=~5

Verification :

\sf\leadsto\:\frac{(x+3)}{(x+11)}~=~\frac{(x-2)}{(x+1)}

\sf\leadsto\:\frac{(5+3)}{(5+11)}~=~\frac{(5-2)}{(5+1)}

\sf\leadsto\:\frac{8}{16}~=~\frac{3}{6}

\sf\leadsto\:\cancel{\frac{8}{16}}~=~\cancel{\frac{3}{6}}

\sf\leadsto\:\frac{1}{2}~=~\frac{1}{2}

Hence Verified!~

Step-by-step explanation:

(x+3):(x+11)=(x−2):(x+1)

x+11

x+3

=

x+1

x−2

(x+3)(x+1)=(x+11)(x−2)

x

2

+4x+3=x

2

+9x−22

4x−9x=−22−3

−5x=−25

∴x=5.
