Mirage is an illusion which occurs usually indeserts on hot summer days. The mirage is caused by the total internal reflection of light at layers of air of different densities.In adesert, the sand is very hot during day time and a result the layer of air in contact with it gets heated up and becomes lighter.

As a result the light coming from object it strikes layers of lower region air which has more density so that... Some light ray hai greater angle then critical angle. Then the light reflected backs same medium.. And the orbserver seen real and virtual illusion shiny image called mirage
