Old man at the bridge is a story written by Ernest Hemingway. This story is about a conversation between a soldier and the old man who had to leave his hometown during the Spanish Civil War. He was not willing to leave his hometown because he loved his animals very dearly and he was the last one to leave his place as he could do nothing except that. He was 76 years old and was exhausted and tired and therefore he sat at the side of the road near the Pontoon Bridge and he started conversing with the soilder whose duty was to see that how far the enemy has approached. The old man said that he was taking care of his animals. The soilder convinced him to leave the place immediately as the enemy might be approaching there. But the old man was not in the state of standing and moving from his place due to his tiredness. The soldier said him to take a truck and go to Barcelona but the old man said that he don't knew anybody there. But the old man thanked the soldier but he didn't go there. Suddenly the sky was cast with clouds and so the planes of enemies were not up. This was the old man's luck which saved him and his animals.
