Let the numbers be x and y.

x - y = 18

Let the common factor for ratio be n

 \frac{x}{y}  =  \frac{5}{3}

  x =  \frac{5y}{3}

Substituting value of x,

 \frac{5y}{3}  - y = 18

5y - 3y = 18 \times 3

2y = 54

y = 27

Therefore x= 45.

x = 45 \:  \:  \:  \: y = 27
