a) The rock cycle is a concept used to explain how the three basic rock types are related and how Earth processes, over geologic time, change a rock from one type into another. Plate tectonic activity, along with weathering and erosional processes, are responsible for the continued recycling of rocks.

b) One type of rock changes to another type under certain conditions in a cyclic manner. When igneous rocks, broken down into small particles that are transported and deposited to form sedimentary rocks. When the igneous and sedimentary rocks are subjected to heat and pressure they change into metamorphic rocks.

  2. When produced under conditions involving intense heat, as rocks of volcanic origin or rocks crystallized from molten magma and sedimentary rocks are subjected to heat and pressure, they change into metamorphic rocks, which are still under heat and pressure meltdown to form molten magma.
