given that:-

x = 3 - 2√2

now squaring both side

we get,,

x² = (3-2√2)²

=> x² = 9+8 - 12√2

=> x² = 17- 12√2


=> (17-12√2) -1/(17-12√2)

=> (17-12√2) - (17+12√2)/(17+12√2)(17-12√2)

=> (17-12√2) -(17+12√2)/(289-288)

=> (17-12√2)-17-12√2

=> - 24√2
