In triangle XYZ, ∠Y is right angle, XZ = 17 cm and YZ = 15 cm, then find

( i ) sin X

( ii ) cos Z

( iii ) tan X

Solution:

In right ∆XYZ

By using Pythagoras theorem,

XZ² = XY² + YZ²

17² = XY² + 15²

289 = XY² + 225

XY² = 289 - 225

XY² = 64

XY = √64

XY = 8 cm

Now,

( i ) sin X

sin X = YZ/XZ

sin X = 15/17

( ii ) cos Z

cos Z = XY/XZ

cos Z = 15/17

( iii ) tan X

tan X = YZ/XY

tan X = 15/8
