vegetation - Climate is milder along the coasts but vry cold n dry in the interior. Annual coastal rain n snowfall avg 60 cms. The interior of Antarctica is often calld a ‘polar desert’ as it only gets about 5 cm of snowfall each yr.
Under such severe and harsh conditions der is hardly any vegetation in d Antarctic. Mosses n lichens cling to rocky areas. Black, white and green lichens r been found to b growin in tiny cracks in dry valleys.Simpler organisms calld algae grow on snow, in lakes and on the ice surrounding d continent. Some flower-bearing plants r found on the northern parts of Antarctica in warmer latitudes. Antarctica is devoid of greenery & any plant life. But in d surroundin sea, floating masses of vegetation dat sustains thousands of marine birds and mammals r found.
