As you might know, the general form of a quadratic equation is
a {x}^{2} \: + \: bx \: + c = 0
You might know that the sum of roots is -b/a.

So, the question has stated that one root is the negative of the other.
If one root is r, the other is -r.
So sum=(-b)/a=0
This means -b/a= (8k)/4 in your question in zero. ONLY POSSIBLE IF K=0.
