In this question we should apply the formula of v2-u2= 2*a*s.

situation 1. initial velocity is v
final velocity is v/3 distance travelled is s
we have to find accn. we get

  - 8{v }^{2} \div 9 = 2as

implies a is -4vsquare/9s

situation 2

final velocity is o initial velocity is v accn is known.. we have to find distance

-v square = -8vsquare/9s * distance

implies distance it travels is 9s i.e option 1
